The word INDUS is an acronym for India and the U.S.A. Indus Hospital is a 90 bed self-supporting, no-profit no-loss unit, which was conceived as a project of philanthropy by Drs. Balak and Indira Verma in the United States of America and was financed with their personal funds with some material help provided by their personal friends. Having worked there for 27 long years and after reaching the zenith of their professional career , both of them continue to serve the Hospital as Medical Missionaries without receiving anything in return from the Hospital, the patients or the vendors, either directly or indirectly.
The Institution is governed by the Indus Medical Foundation which is registered as a Non-profit Public Benefit Corporation in the State of Michigan, U.S.A. , and as a Private Voluntary Organization with the U.S. Agency for International Development as well as under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, in India.
Members of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation are elected from different walks of life, based on their inclination and outstanding track record for philanthropic community service.
They serve the organization without any financial consideration.
Indus is a living testimony to the spirit of dedication and sacrifice and stands to inspire those who care for the welfare of other people. It strives to Introduce a Paradigm Shift and Quality Assurance in Health Care at affordable costs in a developing country, like India.
Hospital Location:
The 90 bed Hospital is located near the top of Mount Jakhoo at an altitude of 7500 feet above the sea level in an exclusive, peaceful and pollution free environment.
The picturesque sunny hill is covered with tall Himalayan cedars in suburban Shimla and offers many mountain trails for morning/evening walks.
The traveling distance to the Hospital is about 6 Km. from the Interstate Bus Terminal and 7 Km. from the Railway Station.
It is about 45 minutes journey by car from Shimla Airport. The Hospital is accessible from all sides by all weather paved roads
