Major Attractions
Tattapani :
TATTAPANI (65 Km) 680 m: Motorable on Shimla-Mandi Highway via Naldehra. Tattapani is a spot well known for hot sulfurous springs. Shiv Goofa at Saraur (4 Km) is also worth visiting. One can enjoy fishing.
HP has a chain of hot water springs which surprisingly lie along the banks of some of the coldest rivers in the state. Some of them like Tattapani, Vashisht near Manali and Manikaran in Kullu have been developed as tourist spots.
A Favorite Joint For Recreation
Tattapani is a relaxed little village, offering a variety of attractions for those in search of rest, recreation and soft adventure.
A series of small hot sulphur springs pop up along the right bank of the river Sutlej over an area of one square kilometre.
If you’re suffering from joint pains, fatigue or any skin disease, this is just the place for you. A dip in these steaming springs will provide the much-needed relief. For the perfectly fit and fine too, bathing here can be great fun.
Some of these springs gush into natural bathtubs thanks to the unique rock formation. The hot water ponds though, are different from springs. They simply vanish when the level of the river rises in June-July and reappear in November-December.
Pilgrimage Centre of Hindus
Tattapani is also a pilgrimage centre for Hindus. The devout consider the month of Magha (January-February) auspicious for a dip. It is believed that by doing so, one can cleanse oneself of one’s sins. Dips are also taken on Baisakhi day (April 13), a major agrarian festival.
Massive community baths are conducted during Tara Ratri, Lohri and 26th of January every year. While at Tattapani don’t forget to visit the Shiva Caves, just 3km away.
Accommodation
Accommodation is inexpensive in Tattapani (though we can’t guarantee cleanliness). HPTDC’s Tourist Bungalow (Tel: 286649) would perhaps be the best option here.
